Bamboo

Bamboo is a kind of grass and there are around 1000 species that grow in all kinds of climates, from cold mountain areas to tropical regions.

Bamboo is a material that is hailed as extremely environmentally friendly. It is one of the fastest growing plants in the world - it can grow between three to five centimeters per hour (!), They have taken time on a specific bamboo and found that it grew 121 centimeters in a day. Bamboo is pruned instead of being harvested by the root, which means that they can quickly grow back. No pesticides are needed for cultivation either, but are grown completely without toxins or chemical additives. Bamboo also converts more carbon dioxide into oxygen compared to most plants and is also antibacterial. For the endangered panda, bamboo shoots are almost the only food, a panda eats between 10 and 20 kilos of bamboo a day.
